R. Brent Murphy is the Senior Vice President, Environmental Affairs for Seabridge Gold, having joined the company in March 2008. A mining professional with over 35 years of experience addressing challenges across the full life cycle of mining projects in North America. Recognized as a progressive, strategic thinker with a proven track record of collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, including senior executives, Boards of Directors, Indigenous communities, the general public, government leaders, and regulators.
He brings a strong technical background and demonstrated leadership in environmental management, project permitting, technical studies development and management, Indigenous, community, and government relations, as well as health and safety for exploration and mining operations. Known for excellent communication skills, robust project management expertise, and extensive experience leading multi-disciplinary teams to successful outcomes. He brought together the necessary technical and social teams and was instrumental in leading the group to obtain the Federal, Provincial, and Nisga’a environmental assessment approvals in 2014 for the KSM Project, following a seven-year review process. The KSM Project is a designated critical minerals project and is the world’s largest and third-largest undeveloped gold-copper project, respectively.
Brent is a former exploration geologist and holds a Bachelor of Science in Geology from St. Francis Xavier University and a Master of Science in Geology (Geochemistry) from Acadia University.
